Resolution on the Situation of the Movement for the Fourth International in the United States
The Geneva conference takes note of the decision adopted by the recent congresses of the Workers Party of the United States (WP) and the Spartacus Youth League (SYL) to enter, respectively, the Socialist Party and the Young People's Socialist League (YPSL) of America, as well as of the declaration by the minority of the organization[1] accepting the decision of the congresses. Although the decision and the ensuing entry of the members of the WPUS and the SYL required the breaking of their previous international affiliations, the conference expresses its approval of this decision and of the declaration made by the national committees of the WP and the SYL, in which they declare that they are entering the SP and the YPSL on the basis of maintaining all their principles and the right to propagate them within the framework of internal democracy in the SP and the YPSL. The conference expresses its conviction that the combined efforts of the forces of the Fourth International in the United States will greatly contribute to accelerating the evolution of the workers and youth of the socialist left wing, now freed from the main forces of the corrupt and reactionary Old Guard, along the path of consistent revolutionary Marxism.
## Notes
1. A minority of the Workers Party led by Abern and Muste was opposed to entrism into the American SP but bowed to the majority's decision, while a faction led by Oehler, refusing entrism on principle, would be excluded in 1935 for indiscipline.
